A few quotes from the Znet quote archive to chew on today. I don't usually like online quote sites, quotes on them are often cited inaccurately, and besides, I'd rather stumble upon a nice phrase myself while reading instead of going through the little piles of word gems that others have mined, but I dunno, I like Znet.
"Too many people are thinking of security instead of opportunity. They seem more afraid of life than death."--James F. Byrnes
"Being an activist means being aware of what's happening around you as well as being in touch with your feelings about it -- your rage, your sadness, your excitement, your curiosity, your feeling of helplessnes, and your refusal to surrender. Being an activist means owning your desire." --Paula Allen
My friend Clint may be quitting soon, partly because he is allowing himself to be aware of the feelings that his job is causing him to feel. The people who have stuck it out in the organization don't really seem to have feelings about the job other than blind loyalty to our model of social change. They are aware of the problems that are out there, the problems that we seek to address through our work, but the way that we go about doing the work isn't sustainble.
