New digs vs. old I’ve been in my current apartment for a good five months now, and while there are some great things about the new place (fewer housekeeping chores b/c of dishwasher, roommate who is obsessed with vacuuming, etc.) one downside is that the place doesn’t lend itself well to hosting dinner parties. The old roommate and I had quite a few memorable ones, but I haven’t formally invited a group over for dinner since I moved. I’ve had impromptu, hey-I’m-making-dish-X-do-you-want-to-come-over-in-20-minutes get togethers, but I miss having an excuse to make a large amount of something special. This summer man, this summer. The back porch has more space than our dining room, so I’ll commandeer one of the grills, light some citronella torches to keep the bugs at bay, and we'll have a food-filled fiesta. Thoughts like these help me get through the wretched month of February.
