I can do this

Well, all my grades are in. While I won't disclose them here (especially since a few folks from law school have discovered my site), I will say that they boosted my confidence. I feel like I can definitely do this law school thing.

I went to a public interest mentor event last night, a casual wine and cheese affair where we got to chat with people who work in various public interest fields. One woman I talked to who worked for a firm that has done a lot of civil rights work told me that she felt like law school didn't teach her much. She said it was a hoop to jump through, but that most of the real learning is done on the job, and that for transactional stuff, its quite inefficient. I'm glad that she was honest about it. I prefer to have my eyes open when I'm walking into something.

While my job puts me in frequent contact with some assistant states attorneys, I had never spoken with a public defender. It was interesting to hear about their caseloads, their philosophies, and how they feel about their jobs.
