A confession
I have something to tell you. I've recently realized that I've become a . . . very car-oriented person. I know, I know. I used to work the rollerblades, and I even used to bike to and from my apartment in Edgewater to my job downtown. I'm a law student now, so my laptop and book-filled bag is pretty heavy. If I plan on buying groceries on the way home from class, am I going to be able to carry the bags plus my schoolbag? Not easily. You know what I do? It's embarassing, but I have to come clean. I park my car somewhere in between the el and the grocery store. Yup. Then I can drive the groceries home. And if I'm going to take Henry somewhere after class (say to Steven's), do I walk over there with the heavy bag on my back and a frisky dog pulling me? No, at least not in cold weather. We drive. Tonight was a combination of those scenarios. I was coming from Steven's with my schoolbag and the dog and then popped into the grocery store to pick up a few things. As I stopped at an intersection on Ravenswood a cyclist biked by with a small backpack on his back. I started dreaming of buying a little dog bike trailer to cart Henry and my stuff around in.
