My one feel good moment of the day
I was in a bad mood when I arrived at the Berwyn el stop earlier this afternoon. I had rushed from work to home, printed out a form I had to give to the dean and something that I wanted a professor to look over, and then ran out the door again. I was running late, stressed out, feeling selfish, and feeling bad about being selfish. As I headed toward the end of the platform I noticed an older man walking slowly towards me with a white cane. I started walking loudly so he would hear me. When he heard my footsteps he told me that he needed help getting out of the station and down to the 92 Foster bus. I took his arm, and guided him through the doors, down the stairs, and out of the station. I had to let go to wave my arms and yell when I saw that the Foster bus sitting there was about to leave. The driver saw me and stopped, and the man caught his bus.
It was a simple thing, but it really lifted my mood. It's rare these days that I'm asked to solve a simple problem. I may not be able to convince someone to leave an abuser, or write a particularly brilliant paper on the Constitutionality of a machine gun statute, but I can help a blind guy find his bus.
