Hairdresser, social worker. . .

My mom told me last week that my Grandma N. was getting Lifeline (not Life Call, the "I've fallen and I can't get up" place, but same idea). The woman is pushing 90, and lives alone in a two-story house in a very small town, so it seemed like a good idea to me. I'm thinking, excellent decision, that was smart of her. All of her children have moved downstate, and while she has friends and neighbors who pop in to visit, there isn't someone around all of the time.

Mom goes on to tell me that her hairdresser was the one who convinced her to sign up for the service. Apparently Grandma had a fall earlier this year that she didn't tell anyone in the family about because she didn't want us to worry. She did mention it to her hairdresser though, who insisted that she sign up Lifeline.

I guess when your clientele consists of a lot of older ladies as opposed to younger ones, you take on the additional role of social worker, as opposed to relationship therapist.

Comments:
Hairdressers probably know a lot of stuff about people. I know my hairdresser does. I think mine knows more about my progress in school than my parents!
