A special kind of nothing

The nothing that you do after months of being busy is a special kind of nothing. At first you go crazy, not able to let go of the feeling that you should be doing something. I recommend messing up your sleep schedule to get over that. When was the last time you were walking down the streets of your city at 5am? I thought so. Waking up late so that you miss the morning news programs helps you comfortably detach yourself from the world. No matter, you can get caught up when you get back. Fine, be honest, you can't help but read the NY Times website anyway, so a few days away from NPR isn't going to kill you. Mmm, movies. Those are fun. If you can't repress the urge to give yourself a reading assignment, at least go somewhere fun to do it. I've been hanging out at a coffee shop down the street while reading Becoming Justice Blackmun and Team of Rivals. I only read for as long as I can stand to drink coffee, and since the staff constantly refills your cup, that's been less than two hours at a time. Drink wine every day. It's what it's there for. Catch up with your damn friends. You haven't seen enough of them lately. See a show. Go for a walk. Do things you shouldn't blog about.

"Do things you shouldn't blog about."

An excellent way to spend your vacation, indeed.
