Art meets science
When Lindsay said she was going to see a show last night at the Annoyance Theatre, I said I'd go with her, expecting normal improv fare. This show turned out to be 1) not improvised, 2) a musical, and 3) about inventions. And it was also quite good. Who would have thought that jokes and songs about inventors and their inventions could be entertaining for several hours? An elderly couple was sitting right in front us in reserved seats, and since it was opening night, I assumed they were relatives of one of the cast members. The guy turned out to be Eugene Polley, the inventor of the television remote control, one of the inventions featured in the play. The director brought him up on stage after the show, and he talked about inventing the remote. In speaking about his invention's significance he said that the only thing better than a remote control was sex. Out of the mouths of 91 year olds.
