Places near and nearer

In the grand scheme of travel, or even driving, my four hour drive to Michigan is pretty short, and when I leave and return to my home in Chicago I get to drive down one of my favorite roads, Lake Shore Drive. My still-holding-in-there 11 year old Taurus took me, my dog, and my ex-boyfriend's dog to Dimondale this weekend for a few days of walks by the river, talking over wine, and a chance to meet a new baby cousin.

Earlier this week the car took a trial advocacy classmate and I down to 26th and California for an interesting day of court observation. Felony cases are decided at that courthouse, and the jail is oh-so-conveniently attached. Two partial murder trials and a burglary sentencing hearing later I was feeling pretty drained, and definitely ready to get out of there. On the way there, Google maps had led us down 94 and over to the Stevenson. On our way home we didn't follow directions and wound up getting home faster, and via Lake Shore.
