Summer contentment

I'm so happy to be done with school for a few months that I'm predisposed to be really excited by whatever follows. And what follows is interesting work that is different and new every day, funny coworkers, a firm with cool partners, and an awesome building with incredible views, so I'm probably happier than I've been with any job I've had so far, (besides that summer I spent gardening and doing traveling poster sales).

I love working in the Loop. I used to think that our city's business district was soulless and boring, but now that I'm down there all day I see things differently. For one, many of those buttoned-down people rushing through the streets are my friends. It seems like everyone is working downtown these days, not just my law school buds. When you're down there all day, you appreciate the architecture more, and get a better feel for how people actually use the space. Those fountains and granite ledges become lunch time gathering places, smoke break places, and great spots for people watching.

I love the farmers markets, the random festivals in Daley Plaza, and the ease with which you can get anywhere in the city from the Loop. So if I wanted to say go hang out with Tara in Wicker Park in order to drink mojitos, go shopping, make friends with the cat in Myopic Books and sober up with some coffee at Filter after work on a Thursday, I could do so easily.
