This is how you get hooked
If you didn't already have a reason to live in Chicago, spend a little time here in the summer and you'll find one. One of our loveliest assets, Lake Michigan, provides the the site, the backdrop, or at the very least the breeze for tons of summer activities. I'm always amazed by the enthusiasm with which people attack the summer season. Festivals and ballgames and sports leagues and the lake and barbecues and concerts...it takes planning to figure out how to fit them all in, let alone find the energy to do it all. But it's definitely worth it.
I had a lovely summery weekend, and while half of what I did could take place everywhere, a few things were pure Chicago summer. Among other things I:
- Went to a farmer's market and snapped up some of the last rhubarb of the season
- Played beach volleyball with Lake Michigan on one side and the Chicago skyline on the other
- Conducted a grilling experiment in the backyard with Lindsay and Kevin
- Sat in the broiling-hot bleachers during a Cubs-Padres game at Wrigley Field, and survived by sticking ice cubes from my mai tais down the back of my dress
- Accompanied a bendier friend to a tough but rewarding yoga class
