My dad's surgery went really well today. They removed the cancerous section of his colon and now he's chillin in the hospital. He was a little loopy from pain medication when we got to see him after he came out of the recovery room. He mumbled and only opened one of his eyes to look at us. He got more pain meds a few minutes before my sister Emily and I left, and when I went to hug him goodbye he opened both eyes really wide and kind of rolled them around and laughed because we were startled.
It was a long day in the hospital. I was the first to arrive in the morning to keep him company before surgery. Grandma Viele, Mom, Emily, Aunt Charlene and Uncle Fred all drifted in before 11. Aunt Barb came by a little later. Uncle Mark stopped by while Dad was in surgery, and left promising to drink an extra beer for him on the golf course later in the day.
I should either go for a run or get plastered, I'm feeling a little crazy from sitting around all day. Dad left the pre-op room at 1:30 and we didn't get to see him until around 6:30 or 7, and during that time there wasn't really much to do but sit in the family waiting room or go for a little stroll around the hospital parking lot.
Thanks to all you kind people who have sent supportive emails, good thoughts, and prayers our way.
