Still waiting on one

We've been back in school for a week. It hasn't been a particularly hard one, reading-wise, but the atmosphere has been interesting. Everyone has been talking about grades, but no one has been talking about grades. Beyond a few study partners I'm not revealing mine to anyone, yet many of us are trying to guess and assess each other. The way you act says a lot, the way you decline to discuss says a lot, and the way you change the subject says a lot.

What has been driving me crazy is that our Contracts grades aren't posted yet. Although grades don't necessarily indicate how good of a lawyer you'll be, first year grades do matter for several important reasons. The easiest way to get on to law review is to grade on. While you can try to get on through the write-on competition, that's a lot of extra work, and competition is tough. My legal writing TA told me that a lot of firms who come to our school only interview the top 5-10% of each class during on-campus interviews, so one bad grade could put you out of the running for that. Second semester grades matter too, but I'm dying to know where I stand.
