Aha!

I've figured out why I feel weird when I'm at home in the afternoon doing schoolwork. It's because the new neighborhood is so quiet! In our old apartment building there were always loud people walking by on the street, kids running up and down the stairs, the upstairs neighbors dogs barking, and a truck driving around the block whose horn played "La Cucaracha." At the new place there are no upstairs neighbors, the downstairs neighbors are quiet, and really most of the neighbors in general are quiet.

I thought I would like getting away from the noise of the old place, but the extreme quiet is annoying in its own way. I think I'm going to have to start studying at cafes more during the afternoon so I can feel like I'm still part of the human race.
