Dimondale, sweet Dimondale

I'm back in Dimondale, Michigan, for a few last days of R&R and family time before I head out on Monday. Dimondale is a small town, but a different kind of small town than the one that my Grandma lives in. Hers is a small town in the middle of nowhere, ours is a small town within 10 minutes of a highway that can get you to Lansing or East Lansing within another 10 minutes. Not huge cities in themselves, but at least I can find a decent bookstore, a cafe with wireless, and a good restaurant or two.

I'm enjoying the small town atmosphere though. As my Mom, sister, and I walked home from the seasonal ice cream shop last night, the cars that were honking at us weren't full of guys trying to get our attention, but rather people who we know waving hello. When I came out of the post office this morning, I found the guy who works at the gas station petting and talking to my dog.

I'm even having fun doing chores. I can't remember the last time I hung clothes on a clothesline to dry. I used to do that all the time when I was a kid, and then run around pushing through them like a mad bull, or wrapping a damp sheet around me like I was a superhero. Gardening is also a pleasure. I have lots of houseplants, but I miss taking care of an outdoor garden. Weeding is a great stress-reliever.
