Yoga and the solo traveler
I've been a Saturday morning yoga class with Amanda for the past few weeks, and I have to say it's been the toughest and most rewarding hour and a half of my week. For some reason, more than anything else, it reminds me of the solo travel I did around Europe last summer. All I need for yoga class is myself and a mat. Last summer I admit I packed a little more than a mat in my big backpack, but all I truly needed to be content was my camera, the little red book that I scribbled in all summer, and my Chaco walking sandals. Both yoga and solo travel are unabashedly self-focused and self-indulgent. Becoming more flexible and allowing myself the time to wander around foreign countries doing just as I please both both benefit only me. Last summer's travels also help me with yoga in a small way. The quiet place I go to when we're relaxing on the mats is a rocky cove off the coast of Corniglia, Italy. Me floating in the blue, blue water, staring up at a cliff one side, a beautiful village of pastel houses on another.
