At the party this afternoon

My cousin Ken and I are setting out the wine glasses.

Ken: Okay, I need a glass of wine right now. I haven't had a drink in months.
Me: Why? Oh wait, is Sudan an Islamic country?
Ken: Yup, Sharia law.
Me: Ahh. Here you go.

(No matter how many times I ask, I can never really understand what Ken does, although it has something to do with international development. He's currently on a short-term assignment in Sudan, but no matter where he is he always comes home for Christmas. Well, except when he was in the Peace Corps in the early 80's).

Comments:
Not all Muslim countries forbid alcohol. I'm not sure how that's determined. Syria is technically a Muslim country, but all sorts of alcohols were sold there in stores.
It's a shame not to be able to have wine in Sudan. I'd imagine working there would be stressful and would require a glass of wine at the end of the day!
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year's!
