Day of Yes

In the past 24 hours, I have:

• Given money to a woman panhandling in the subway
• Given money to the accordion player on Jackson Blvd
• Purchased chocolate from kids doing a fundraiser just outside my el stop
• Donated money to teenagers going door-to-door selling Tribune subscriptions for a fundraiser (they wisely had a straight-up donation alternative)

I normally ignore these requests, or politely say no, but for some reason I've found their requests really compelling lately. Is it the rainy weather? Is my heart defrosting now that I'm on my way out of law school?
